Spring Tips
Spring Lawn Care with ProLawnsAu
Spring is here, legend. The soil is warming up, the days are getting longer, and your lawn is ready to snap out of its winter sulk. This is the season to set the tone for the rest of the year. Get it right now and you will be looking at lush stripes, not patchy headaches, when summer hits.
Here’s how to get your backyard in shape:
1. Spring Clean Your Lawn
Winter slows everything down. Grass growth, mowing, and unfortunately it gives weeds a free run. Start spring with a proper clean-up:
- Rake out the junk like leaves, sticks, and dead growth.
- Give the lawn a tidy mow (nothing too short just yet).
- Keep an eye out for weeds and pull them before they spread.
Think of it as giving your grass a haircut and a reset before the busy season kicks in.
2. Time to Dethatch (if needed)
Some lawns build up a thick layer of thatch over winter. That is the spongy mess sitting between the green and the soil. If yours feels soft underfoot or is looking tired, it could be choking your lawn.
- Use a dethatching rake or mower set low to clear it out.
- Buffalo and couch lawns often benefit from this step.
- Do not stress if your lawn looks a bit rough straight after. It will bounce back quickly in spring conditions.
3. Feed Like a Pro
Spring is the best time to hit your lawn with fertiliser. After winter dormancy it needs a solid feed to spark new growth and colour.
- For a proper wake-up, use Wakey Wakey Spring Fertiliser. High in nitrogen to wake your lawn up, with the right balance of phosphorus and potassium to keep it tough.
- Follow up later in the season with Turf Tukka Year Round Fertiliser if you want steady growth and stripes all year.
- Apply at the recommended rate and water it in well.
4. Wetting Agents Coming Soon
As the weather warms, consider a wetting agent to help your soil soak up every drop of water instead of letting it run off. They are especially useful if you notice dry spots or water just sitting on top of the soil. ProLawnsAu has our own wetting agent in the works and it will be hitting the shelves soon.
5. Watering Wisely
With soil temps rising your lawn will need more water than winter but don’t go overboard. Deep, less frequent watering helps the roots grow strong, rather than shallow daily sprinkles.
- Early morning is best. It reduces evaporation and keeps fungus at bay.
- Watch the weather. If rain is on the way, let nature do the job.
ProLawnsAu Tip
Spring is all about momentum. Nail the basics now with a clean lawn, dethatching if needed, a solid fertiliser program, and smart watering. You will set yourself up for a lawn that laughs in the face of heatwaves, backyard cricket, and the neighbour’s jealous stare come summer.
